Known as the "crossroads of the revolution," the region saw about 300 battles of the revolutionary war of 1776-1783. The Delaware River was also the famous site of George Washington's nocturnal crossing of Pennsylvania to surprise Hessian soldiers in New Jersey. At the crossroads site, today is George Washington Crossing State Park. The park has many historical exhibits that entertain both young and old.
